Stray Dog Surgery Centre Launched in Chuhar Chak, Moga

As part of the Barking for a Better Punjab campaign, a veterinary surgery centre for stray dogs has been inaugurated in Chuhar Chak village, Moga. The centre will focus on sterilisation, vaccination, and eventual rehoming of stray and abandoned animals.

Spearheaded by UK-based NRI Surinder Pal Sharma, the initiative reflects a growing commitment to humane stray dog management and public safety. It will also run awareness drives on responsible pet ownership.

Launched with support from local leaders and NRIs, the project aims to become a model for animal welfare across Punjab.

In Lucknow (2022), a pack of stray dogs attacked and killed a child.

In Hyderabad (2023), a 4-year-old was mauled to death, causing public outcry.

Proposed Solutions:

  1. Nationwide Sterilization & Vaccination Drives to reduce stray dog populations.
  2. Stronger Enforcement of Pet Ownership Laws to prevent pet abandonment.
  3. Better Waste Management Policies to curb food availability for stray dogs.
  4. Public Awareness Campaigns to educate citizens on co-existence and safety measures.

A balanced policy approach focusing on public safety, animal welfare, and better municipal management is needed to resolve India’s stray dog crisis.
